Work we did and didn’t do around the Cabin

• Porch was collapsed due to rotten joist. Replaced with milled 4x4.
• Stairs were completely rotten so replaced with a rustic 2-step ladder.
• Porch splatters rain onto cabin walls and door. 2-3” of the door’s bottom had rotted out. We trimmed this section off and screwed on an inside and outside kick-plate. Trimmed some extra stovepipe aluminum (galv?) and flashed bottom 24” of exterior of door. Looks good and works well. Exterior kick plate is replacable and will likely rot in a couple years.
• Put up 24” of visquene around cabin over porch to protect from rain. Loose fit allows to breath/dry.
• Shimmed up some rotted “footers”, but this should be a priority for next couple years. Jack, treated 6x6’s, etc?
• Replaced several rungs on the cache ladder. Mice and something that lays turds the size of Amelia had gotten into the cache. Cooler chewed up and opened. Lot of chewed up food containers. We patched the only large hole.
• Stove pipes need some attention. We made them work, but they are largely rusted out. Especially the elbows.
• We would have liked to have Thompson watersealed the deck.
• Kingfisher slammed into large Denali window and died. I heard it and went snooping around for bears.
• You know the window over the sink is broken.
